Under the tent at Whistle Buoy, we’ll be posted from 6–10pm with drinks flowing and food going. Come through, catch a vibe, and settle into some deep listening and dancefloor moments as the sun goes down.
Injury Prone
Injury Prone is a Nigerian DJ and cultural worker currently based in ‘Vancouver’. He is interested in African electronic dance music genres and the ways Black diasporic life influences cultural production. DJing for him is a practice rooted in play, friction, cultural transmission, and call-and-response between DJ and dancefloor. He is also one of the minds behind madebywe, a space where he and his friends host events that use sound and music as a tool for community exploration.
Bowen Arbutus
The government-issue name of another member of the CFUV family and co-organizer of Public Assembly, Bowen Arbutus brings a deep love for music that moves with purpose and feeling. A crate-digger since he could stand, always drawn to the stories music tells and the ways it moves bodies and minds.
A familiar face in local booths, he’s played sets everywhere from Lucky to Capital Ballroom, Upstairs to Hermann’s, and the dearly departed VIC. He’s also released on the iconic Trax Records (alongside the ever-talented Linus).
Expect a wide net: Balearic, dub, trip hop, leftfield house… whatever the dancefloor needs.
Serena Simpson
We'll be opening the night with Serena Simpson. Host of Overstanding Hour, a CFUV radio show exploring the intersection of music, solidarity, identity and global influence of the African Diaspora.
